READING
Congratulations! We have completed Unit 5 and the last section Unit 6. The next few weeks we will be reviewing concepts from Unit 1 - 6 that need reteaching.
We are finishing the school year with chapter books. Each day we read a chapter and follow it with a short book report. "Horrible Harry" and others are featured.
Accelerated Reader Word Count:
1st Trimester Goal - Minimum 90,000 words
2nd Trimester Goal - 195,000 words
3rd Trimester Goal - 300,000 words
Make sure you continue to take a quiz for each book read at home and in class. This is the best way to achieve your goals. Beginning readers can share the reading with a parent. Please select books that have enough words to make a difference. AR is now part of the report card. Good Luck!
Reading Log
Mr. H's class is no longer requiring reading logs with homework. The Accelerated Reading program is a fantastic method for monitoring word counts and book levels. You can check your word count report after each completed quiz. In addition to word count goals for second grade, individual student points goals have been set. Next time you take a quiz check your points goal. It's worth 1,000 tickets!

MATH
We will cover 3 digit addition, 3 digit subtraction, multiplication and division during the remaining days of school. Please review any work that is sent home.
Our goal for EPGY is to get 85% or higher correct. Now that we are experienced, we are learning to solve each problem correctly the first try. Everyone has shown good growth so far this year.
SOCIAL STUDIES/ SCIENCE
SOCIAL STUDIES/ SCIENCE
Social Studies Unit 5 is about "People in the Marketplace". As we explore markets in different countries and states. students will work on state posters in class. They have been assigned states they know little about to learn something brand new. Completed reports look great and are hanging in class.
Our CO2 cars look fantastic! Thanks to Todd Vierra for cutting all the blanks and all the parents who helped at the race. All cars will be available to see at Open House.
Some of our silkworms have turned into moths. They have mated and left eggs for next year. Silkworm homes will stay at school the remainder of the year for the class to observe.
